US beach with quartz-crystal sand and clear turquoise waters voted one of the best in the world - The Mirror US
Americans dreaming of enjoying crystal-clear waters and stunning white sand while lounging on one of the best beaches in the world don't need to even leave the country as a US beach has been named one of the greatest stretches of shoreline on Earth.
Tripadvisor released its annual Travelers' Choice Awards on Tuesday, which sees the travel platform compile several "Best of the Best" lists - including the global top 25 best beaches that promise a "dreamy escape". Siesta Beach, located in Siesta Key, Florida, took fourth place in the awards.
The Florida beach is renowned for its clear turquoise waters and nearly 100% quartz-crystal sand. It's been dubbed the "world's finest, whitest sand," and never gets too hot despite the Gulf Coast sun and tropical weather. "Whether you want to relax or fill your day with activities, Siesta Beach delivers. Kick back on the white sand, go swimming in the clear water, or simply admire the sunset—it's up to you. It's easy to get to via public transportation, offers wheelchair access, and has plenty of shops and restaurants nearby," Tripadvisor said.
The beach underwent a $20million renovation in 2016, which added a playground, two concession stands, more restrooms, a half-mile-long esplanade and many shelters and pavilions. The 2025 list marks the fourth year in a row that Siesta Beach has been named one of the best in the world and this year it's jumped up five places.
The Travelers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best awards are based on reviews and opinions from the Tripadvisor community over a 12-month period and reviewers have raved about Siesta Beach's beautifully clear waters, powdery sand and tranquil atmosphere. One person wrote: "This is one of those classic American movie beaches. The kind with the lifeguard towers, thousands of half naked people of every background, beautiful sugar sand, crystal clear, warm water and beach as far as the eye can see. The epitome of what you want in a public beach."
Another said: "The sand is so beautifully white and soft like baby powder and it never gets hot! The beach is quiet ( so much beach that everyone feels like they each have a private oasis) and the water is such a beautiful green and is warm but yet refreshing." A third reviewer agreed, noting: "Beautiful clear water, white sand, nice family atmosphere, beautiful shells, calming and tranquil. Just what I needed."
Just three beaches around the world came in ahead of Siesta Beach. Elafonissi Beach in Greece was awarded first place. Located on the island of Crete, it features incredible pink sands and turquoise waters.
Tripadvisor said: "Elafonissi Beach is just one of those places you have to see to believe. The shallow lagoons are perfect for curious kids, while the deeper waters invite all sorts of adventure for adults: swimming, snorkeling, you name it. Just make sure to stick around until sunset—you won't regret it."
Banana Beach in Phuket, Thailand came in second with its "stunning coral reefs" and the ability to enjoy a "relaxing beachside massage". Third place was awarded to Eagle Beach in Palm Island, Aruba, which boasts soft white sands, warm waters and spectacular sunset views but is one of the less-crowded beaches on the island.
